Very narrow channel to access marina with inaccurate markers and lots of commercial traffic
Can be a bit noisy at night with some “doof-doof” music till late
Limited supplies and trades available
Sandflies and mozzies
Lots of birds so be prepared to clean your deck daily

Location

Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina Port Douglas is located about 35 NMs north of Cairns and is your last stop for maintenance and repair when travelling north with perhaps Cooktown another 60 NMs further north as a last resort. Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina is well sheltered from the south-easterlies so dock your yacht into the wind if you want to catch any of the limited breeze.

First Impression

Be vigilant when entering the marina at low tide as we had a green marker sitting on the sand on our arrival. So keep to the middle of the channel if you can. Also, be mindful that commercial traffic if high around 8.00 am as well as around 4.00 pm with numerous reef tourist vessels coming and going in there usual “I’m a commercial vessel; get out of my way” manner…

Facilities

The marina is well maintained and the facilities were great with no shortage of food and drink at the marina itself or 5 minutes away into town. There is a chandler/tackle shop 3 minutes away but it holds limited stock. There are several tradespeople around Port Douglas as some travel from Cairns on a regular basis.

Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina has dedicated absolution facilities consisting of 3 separate lockable spaces that contain both a toilet and a shower. In a separate area, you find 2 washing and drying machines. The marina management will provide you with a “card” that will give access to your berth as well as the facilities.

We found the toilets and showers immaculately clean and functional although don’t expect a torrent of water from the showers…
